Dr. Benson specializes in ophthalmology and corneal and external diseases.He is board certified by The American Board of Ophthalmology.

Experience

Dr. Benson was the State Medical Director for the Old Dominion Eye Bank from 1995 to 2006. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Association of University Professors of Ophthalmology (AUPO), and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Benson has received the honor of being selected by his colleagues as one of “Richmond’s Top Doctors” by “Richmond” magazine.

Dr. Benson is Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at VCU. He is also a Professor at the University.

Education

Dr. Benson received his Bachelor’s Degree from Northwestern University, and earned his M.D. from West Virginia University School of Medicine. He completed an ophthalmology residency at West Virginia University School of Medicine, and two successive fellowships in cornea and external disease and cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. Dr. Benson is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
